Child Cancer Foundation

Civic and Social Organizations

Supporting Kiwi kids with cancer and the people who love them.

About us

Every week in Aotearoa, three families are told the heartbreaking news that their child has cancer. A cancer diagnosis doesn’t just affect the child – all members of the whānau are impacted. For over 40 years, Child Cancer Foundation has been dedicated to supporting them every step of the way, helping them overcome challenges and maintain control of their lives. Each newly diagnosed family is connected with a Family Support Coordinator, who is there to provide them with one-to-one support in the specific areas they need it. We need to raise $7 million each year to continue providing vital support to Kiwi kids with cancer and their families. We do not receive any direct government funding, so we rely on the generosity of our fellow Kiwis to support these children and their whānau through the toughest time in their lives. Calling all Lampwork Bead Artists! We're seeking talented Lampwork Bead Artists to volunteer their time and skills to craft Courage Beads for our Tamariki battling cancer. These special glass beads are given out, as part of our Beads of Courage programme, to acknowledge the extraordinary acts of bravery displayed by children undergoing cancer treatment. Your unique designs—whether simple, intricate, colourful or themed—will serve as a symbol of strength and courage. To ensure safety and durability, all beads do need to be properly annealed. If you’re unsure about the annealing process, don’t worry! One of our experienced artists is available to assist with annealing your beads to make sure they’re strong and smooth enough for the kids to wear. If you're passionate about using your artistry to spread joy and encouragement, we’d love to have you join our community of artists. For more details on how you can contribute to this meaningful cause, drop us a message or comment below!

A big thank you to Icehouse Ventures for selecting us as their charity of choice at their Showcase Event last night at Auckland's Spark Arena. The evening brought together over 1,000 people from the start-up industry, with even more joining via live stream from six different locations across the country. Eight innovative start-ups pitched for investment to grow their businesses further. Our CEO, Monica Briggs MNZM, was hounored to attend with Michelle Spargo our Family Support Team Leader in the Northern Region. Monica spoke about the important mahi we do and how we make a difference in the lives of families affected by child cancer. We are also deeply grateful to the amazing businesses that contributed to the Showcase Silent Auction, with all proceeds going to Child Cancer Foundation, enabling us to continue providing our vital support. A special thank you to Crimson Education, Rocket Lab, Tim Brown, Vessev, Tracksuit, Lexus, Dhall & Nash Fine Wines, Greywacke Vineyards, Pegasus Bay Winery, Vineyard and Events, FROMM Winery and Te Mata Estate. Finally to Felicity Richards who organised our involvement in the evening which has not only raised pivotal funds but also increased the awareness for childhood cancer in Aotearoa.

We're very grateful to have been invited to sit with Health Minister Hon. Shane Reti from Ministry of Health New Zealand recently. Monica Briggs MNZM, our CEO, and Kerry Price our Policy, Advocacy and Projects Manager attended along with Canteen Aotearoa Chief Executive Nick Laing to discuss some topics that are very dear to our hearts and the families we serve. Our briefing letter to the Minister covered important topics like the National Travel Assistance programme and paediatric palliative care in New Zealand. Both are areas of focus in our advocacy with our peers. The meeting was constructive and it was evident the Minister has a huge commitment to cancer care, treatment and prevention. Keen to see the full range of topics we discussed? You can see the briefing letter on our website: https://ow.ly/MQkH50STvkG

Need some ideas for your Wig Wednesday fundraiser? 💡💭 Last year we had over 500 amazing groups of people get wiggy in a bunch of different ways. Here are a few ideas: 🤪 Wacky hair day. You could even do a competition for the most creative hairdo. 🧁 Wiggy morning tea. Get everyone to bring a plate and a donation so you can enjoy some delicious treats together (making sure everyone wears a wig, of course!). 🔝 The Big Wig. If you reach your fundraising goal, the Big Wig of your organisation or school has to wear a wig for the day. ✂️ Head shave. If you have been waiting for the opportunity to shave your head or beard, now may be the perfect opportunity to do it for a good cause. 👖 Themed mufti day. Pick a theme and wear a wig to match! There’s no right or wrong way to do a Wig Wednesday fundraiser – the most important thing is that you have fun and do it in a way that works for you. Join the fun this September! Sign up now, link in bio. #wigwednesdaynz #fundraiser #childhoodcancer #cancersucks #giveback

Thank you so much to everyone who attended our Go for Gold Gala Dinner & Quiz Fundraiser in Auckland last Thursday night! It was a fantastic evening raising $200,000 and counting for tamariki with cancer and their whānau ⭐ We receive no government funding, so our ability to provide essential care to families relies heavily on the generosity of our guests at events like these and everyone who bid on the online auction from home. We were very fortunate to have Courtney Cebalo, her son Roman and her mother Debbie attend as guest speakers and share Roman's cancer journey 🥰 Their story gave a moving example of how childhood cancer impacts Kiwi families' lives, and how every donation helps families like theirs. Thank you to our auctioneers Steve Lovegrove & Gerald van der Meer, and Hamish McKay for hosting the event as our MC. They all did a terrific job. 🎉 A very special thank you to our incredible Principal Partner, BOC & Elgas. We couldn't have done it without you. To everyone who attended, donated auction items, partnered with us, supported the event and volunteered, our gratitude 💙 Have a look at what a great evening it was! Thanks to Black On Black for the beautiful shots. 📷

Last week we welcomed Isla from Takapuna Grammar School and Mohi from Auckland University of Technology to "Shadow the Leader" at Child Cancer Foundation. They wanted to see first-hand what goes into running a charity, and understand how a purpose-driven entity is driven by key leadership members with a unified vision and direction. Thank you both for joining us and we look forward to seeing you flourish as future leaders! 💙

Go for Gold is all go in Auckland tonight, but you don’t have to be at the gala to be a winner! ⭐️ Register for the silent online auction now, see what’s on offer and place your bids! Be sure to check back later tonight to make sure you’re still in the lead. The silent online auction closes at 10:30pm. All funds raised go directly to helping the families in our care, so we're all for a little healthy competition if you are 😉 Happy bidding! https://lnkd.in/gExRwhUM
