😀 Staff Spotlight 👋 Kia ora to Donna Bailey! TRANSCRIPT: Hi! I'm in this week's Staff Spotlight! Hi! I'm Donna, a hearing interpreter at iSign, Deaf Aotearoa, based in the Avondale office. I serve as the Graduate Interpreter Programme Supervisor, where I support newly qualified interpreters from AUT for two years. My role involves finding a variety of jobs for them, helping to train and upskill them so they can become good quality interpreters. Outside of work, I enjoy sports, exercising, running, walking, and swimming. I also love spending time with my family, catching up with friends over a few drinks, and baking! #deafaotearoa #nzsl #staffspotlight

Deaf Aotearoa is looking for a Project Lead - Incorporated Societies Act Project! Project aim?: To ensure that members of Deaf community incorporated societies are fully informed of the changes to the Incorporated Societies Act, so that they can engage with the organisations they are members of, as they go through the process of changing their constitutions. This is a part-time, fixed-term role - 20 hours a week for 7 months (hours can be flexible). Applications will close at 5:00pm on 30th August 2024. Lara Draper and Becky Hadfield share an update on the recent New Zealand Sign Language Board grants round for 2024. Deaf Seniors Project: Phase 2 of the project to improve the quality of life of Deaf Seniors aged 60+. Phase 2 will involve meeting with Deaf and Turi Māori Seniors across NZ to share research and get feedback on how Deaf Aotearoa can better meet their needs with their Adults & Seniors work. Joyce will work 10 hours a week as Deaf Seniors lead to focus on the Deaf Seniors project, and will visit 4 locations to meet with Deaf Seniors to discuss the survey findings and what priorities they have. She will also visit 4 other locations to provide seniors/aged-related information workshops and then will present our final findings to the NZSL Board. Incorporated Societies Act NZSL Workshops: Ensuring the Deaf community is fully informed of the changes to the Incorporated Societies Act, so that they can engage with organisations they are members of. This will be done through the creation of 4 accessible NZSL workshops. There will be 3 face-to-face workshops and one online workshop for committee members, Deaf Clubs, and Deaf Sport organisations etc. Constitutions need to be brought up to date to meet the updated Incorporated Societies Act. The Constitutions will need to be up to date and completed before 2026. As part of this project, we will be advertising and recruiting for a Project Leader to lead and undertake this project.
