We’re very excited to announce that we’re proceeding with the expansion of our Kaiwera Downs Wind Farm near Gore, following a long-term agreement signed with New Zealand’s Aluminium Smelter last week. Construction is scheduled to kick off later this month and once complete, the second stage will generate enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent of ~73,000 homes per year. Our Executive GM Portfolio, Phil Gibson says “We’re excited to start another project that will help Aotearoa New Zealand move to a lower-carbon future. We’re committed to playing our part, and increasing New Zealand’s renewables is a key way we can contribute.” A big ngā mihi to Hokonui Rūnunga, the local community, our contractors, stakeholders, partners and our team for their hard mahi, getting us to this stage. We’re looking forward to continuing the good work with you all. An enthusiastic team from the ElectroNet Group took part in the He Rā Rākau Tītapu Coronation Planting Project Challenge at Deverys Creek, in partnership with Conservation Volunteers New Zealand. The project objective for He Rā Rākau Tītapu is to plant 7,000 trees to improve Mountains-to-Sea biodiversity for bird, herpetofauna and fish species. The location is a habitat already home to Australasian bittern, fernbird, whitebait and seasonal visitation by kōtuku and royal spoonbill. The Deverys Creek Project supports the wider vision of Carbon Sequestration and Catchment Improvements on the Barrytown flats. It builds on the CVNZ restoration projects already completed in the area, including the 75-hectare Punakaiki Coastal Restoration Project now completed and renamed the Te Ara Tāiko Nature Reserve. Our team managed to plant a total of 390 trees in two hours! Well done team🎉
