Do you provide short-stay accommodation? We have updated a series of “questions we’ve been asked” (QWBA) on the income tax implications of providing short-stay accommodation. These draft QWBA’s will be of interest to anyone who rents out their property for short-stay accommodation. For example, renting out a holiday home, or a room through a booking platform. Originally published in 2019, the QWBA’s have been updated to reflect recent changes, including: ⭐ the GST online marketplace rules (income tax implications), ⭐ the residential rental ring-fencing rules, ⭐ the interest limitation rules, ⭐ a change of view in relation to the depreciation for mixed-used chattels, ⭐ changes to thresholds for depreciation and provisional tax. See the draft QWBA's on our Tax Technical website – https://lnkd.in/g-Mks83M Consultation is open and will close on 25 October. We welcome all feedback. Have your say, email us at [email protected]

Scams are designed to look authentic, and they can be hard to detect. Anyone can be targeted. Be on the lookout. Even if it looks convincing, don't click on links, or give out your bank details. 👉 Remember we do not put refund amounts, or links directly to myIR in our emails or texts. 👉 Scam emails may come from an email address or include links that are wrong but look like ours. For example: ird.co.nz, ird.qovt.nz or ird.gov.nz Our correct web address is ird.govt.nz and emails will come from [email protected] or [email protected] 👉 To check a link, use your mouse to hover over it. The address will appear in a box or at the bottom of your screen. Make sure the link is correct before clicking on it. For more information about the latest scams and what to look out for, visit our website - https://lnkd.in/dzzCqND

🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨 Be on the lookout for scammers using fake social media accounts trying to contact you. They may pretend to be Inland Revenue staff. Keep an eye out for these signs: 👉 Look at the number of followers. Fake social media accounts often show only a few followers. Our official Facebook account has over 84,000 followers and LinkedIn over 45,000 followers. 👉 Check the activity on the accounts. For example, the number of posts made and how often they are made. 👉 See when the account was created. Our Facebook account was created in 2013. We will never ask for personal or financial information through social media posts. We do not use any type of direct messaging from a social media platform i.e. messenger. For signs of a scam visit - https://lnkd.in/dQtumJ3t
