Thanks so much to Tara and Haydn who provided our board with financial and risk training this weekend in such an accessible way! 🌈 Most of our board members are young people and having the opportunity to learn in these areas helps develop the skills and confidence for good governance to keep our organisation thriving into the future!

You know what it's like when a work colleague asks how your weekend was and you automatically respond "good"? I hope I get asked that question a lot today, because I can say GREAT, all caps, emphasised. My son, Kiefer, asked his father and I to provide Risk training to the InsideOUT Board. My specialty is Business Financial Reports training whilst my husband's specialty is Operational Risk and Compliance. The Board was very engaging, interested, displayed a wide range of skills and, most importantly, took their roles as Board members very seriously. Many of the Board are under 27 but displayed maturity well above their years. We were thrilled to be a part of their journey. We are also very proud of Kiefer, he is 21 and has been on the Board since he was a teenager and is now the Treasurer. It is a great opportunity for Kiefer and his family to give back to an organsiation that has been so supportive of his personal journey as he transitioned. InsideOUT is a national charity working to make Aotearoa safer for all rainbow and takatāpui people. They provide resources, workshops, consulting, advocacy and support for anything concerning rainbow (LGBTQIA+) communities. If you know someone who needs support the link to InsideOUT is below. If you have money burning a hole in your pocket, this is a wonderful organisation that needs funding to continue the amazing work that they do, and your donation would be gratefully received. https://insideout.org.nz Below is a picture of the Board with Kiefer in the middle in front of me and my husband beside Kiefer. We are incredibly excited to announce that Sport New Zealand has partnered with InsideOUT Kōaro to develop a suite of resources on trans inclusion for the community sport and active recreation sector! We want to mihi to all the trans rangatahi who shared their experiences of sport and recreation with us. In addition to this video capturing their voices, we have been commissioned by Sport New Zealand to develop and deliver a suite of resources to increase the rainbow competency of community sports organisations throughout Aotearoa. All trans people deserve to move their bodies free from exclusion and discrimination. Community sports organisations and active recreation spaces have an important role to play in creating greater access and safety for members of our community who want to take part in physical activities. We believe this mahi is an important step in the creation of more trans and rainbow-inclusive play, sport and active recreation environments for our rangatahi and wider community. Stay tuned for further resources in this collaboration being released in the near future!

This Transgender Awareness Week, we’re uplifting the voices of trans and non-binary rangatahi who share their experiences of sport and recreation in Aotearoa.  No one should be missing out on being active or having poor experiences because of their sex or gender. Together we can create environments where all young people feel safe, included and celebrated for who they are and bring our vision of Every Body Active to life.
