The comms council, media committee team hosted it's first Media Spotlight event on Wednesday. I had the pleasure of moderating a panel to discuss "creativity in media in 2024 and beyond". We discussed the broader role media agencies have to play in creativity, given the acceleration of data & technology, and shifts in media consumption. Unsurprising we concluded collaboration is king, data and technology is not the idea but the facilitator of ideas or executions, and whilst we still believe in the BIG idea we need to make room for how this comes to life across the media ecosystem.  We also had a great discussion about being brave and tasking risks however there is still no silver bullet for guaranteed success. In the mean time the tried and tested formula for reducing risk is collaboration, clarity on what success looks like and building measurement frameworks. Our brilliant panel members left to right Annemarie Browne, Emily Scovell, Gina McKinnon, Tony Bradbourne. That was a lot of fun, see you back next year Media Committee shout outs Rufus Chuter, Nigel Douglas, Simon Bird, Simon Lendrum. Not bad for a first event. Lets do it again. MBM

This week, our Chief Digital Officer Emily Isle, joined an esteemed panel at the IAB event to discuss the critical topic of first-party data and digital privacy. It was an enlightening session with industry leaders from Google, XPON, New Zealand Media & Entertainment (NZME), Les Mills International, and Spark New Zealand. The discussion delved into the challenges and opportunities in an increasingly privacy-conscious landscape. Key takeaways included strategies for balancing audience targeting at scale while respecting user privacy, and envisioning a future where effective digital advertising and user privacy coexist harmoniously. A big thank you to the IAB and all the participants for such a valuable and thought-provoking conversation! 🌟

Last week our Chief Data Officer, Maurice Riley, flew across the ditch and took to the stage as the keynote speaker at Auckland Airport tourism forum TRENZ, New Zealand’s largest international tourism business event.   In his session entitled, ‘The 'Worth It' Factor: Understanding how Aussie Travellers Calculate Value in Today's Travel Decisions’, Maurice drew on bespoke data provided by Zenith Media Australia’s Imagine Consumer Panel to showcase how Australians prioritise trust, sustainability, product quality and emotional connection over price when it comes to travel.    He highlighted how tourism brands focused on building trustworthiness, being transparent and delivering high-quality experiences can continue to achieve inbound growth despite current cost-of-living pressures, as Aussie consumers ‘selectively splurge’ on travel experiences deemed valuable for the money.

We are thrilled to announce that MBM has been identified as New Zealand’s #1 “Dominant” media agency in RECMA - Research company evaluating the media agency industry's annual Domestic Report.    This impressive result was determined on two sets of criteria; Vitality and Structure, bolstered by our consistent momentum for growth.     Our lead in agency Vitality underscores our dynamism, demonstrated through some amazing new business wins, client portfolio growth, and industry share. Meanwhile, our performance in agency Structure was attributed to our level of digitisation and diversification, including our integration in the local market, long-standing client relationships, and the expertise of our fantastic specialists. These remarkable results are a testament to the incredible team here at MBM and our esteemed clients and partners who we have the pleasure of working with – congratulations to all!
