  • Last night was the Diversity Works New Zealand Diversity Awards. Congratulations to all winners and finalists and a special congratulations to our members who were finalists and award winners in several categories last night. Air New Zealand were the winners of the Impact Award for their amazing mahi to provide an employment pathway for disabled people and showcase their skills and talents far and wide. Huge congratulations to the Air NZ team, along with Project Employ on this achievement. KPMG New Zealand were winners of the Medium-Large Organisation Diverse Talent for creating organisational pathways that allow Māori and Pasifika people to shine in ways that honour their culture. Congratulations to Diversity Works on a very successful evening. It was wonderful to hear stories of the mahi organisations across the motu are doing to move the dial to the benefit of all.

  • What can we say other than it was an amazing privilege and inspiring time with Susan Scott-Parker. Thanks to Ringa Hora for partnering with the New Zealand Disability Employers' Network to make Susan’s visit possible.

Such a privilege to support the New Zealand Disability Employer Network and connect face to face with members during my recent visit. It is wonderful that Phil Turner and his team continue to enable their growing corporate membership to define and deliver best practice. Air New Zealand are staunch supporters – we met up in Auckland to learn more about their commitment to making air travel truly accessible for all – and to swap notes regarding how to engage senior leaders to drive the business improvements that also benefit people with disabilities. Their brilliant Flourish Café, in Air New Zealand’s ‘downtown HQ,’ serves outstanding coffees (!) as they also prepare people with disabilities for careers in the hospitality industry. Thank you to all those I engaged with, during my time in New Zealand. The work continues… #DisabilityEmployerNetwork #AirNewZealand #Accessibility #DisabilityConfidence

Are you leaving school in the next few years and thinking about working in a hotel, bank or restaurant? What about in an accounting firm or as a hands-on tradie? Make sure to check out our Employment Conversations at Transition Expo. This is a golden opportunity to find out what the possibilities are in various sectors, from employers themselves. Have a chat with the NZ Disability Employers' Network and organisations that attend. Last year this included Adecco, Sudima Hotels, KPMG, Westpac and Mercury. The employers who come will help you explore your next career steps and share advice on how to prepare for future roles. This year, each area of Transition Expo will have a different colour to help you navigate your way through. For Employment, look out for the pink flags! RSVP to our Facebook event for more information and for a reminder closer to the date: https://lnkd.in/gK_C48bA Image description: Phil Turner from NZ Disability Employers' Network talking to a Transition Expo attendee. • It has been a double privilege for us to have the Hon Louise Upston, in her roles as Minister for Disability Issues and Social Development, engaging with the NZDEN two days in a row. Firstly joining us in Rotorua to give a Ministerial address at the close of the 2024 Disability Inclusive Pathways Conference. The Minister’s address was well received and she stayed to take several questions from the audience. Then our international guest Susan Scott-Parker and NZDEN Chief Executive Phil Turner met with Minister Upston, Paula Tesoriero MNZM and Brian Coffey at the Beehive on Thursday afternoon to explore international best and emerging practices to maximise disability employment through reshaping job markets. Susan shared her experiences from around the globe, and Phil was able to ground them in New Zealand based experiences of NZDEN members. We look forward to continuing engagement on this essential mahi.
