About us

The NZEA is a voluntary organisation formed under the Incorporated Societies Act 1908 on 12 September 2005. The Association was established as the New Zealand Association of Event Professionals (NZAEP) in response to industry demand for a recognised body to represent the burgeoning events industry in New Zealand. The Association's principle was to bring professionals together to focus on the industry as a whole and to act as a voice for that industry and its 1,100+ members. The NZ Events Association (NZEA formerly NZAEP), our new name reflects simply both our members and the ever changing face of the dynamic events sector of New Zealand.

    Meet the judges! By this time next week, we will know who has won the NZEA New Zealand Event Awards! And these winners and finalists cannot be selected without the help of our amazing judges. New for 2024, Nikki Streater join the panel. With a background in events (ex- Big Day Out) Nikki is the GM at Satellite, a digital production company specialising in technology at events. Recently you may have seen her on the main gate at Fieldays, on site with the registration team at Australian Fashion Week or working with the team to deliver key technology as part of Motat’s new Science and Technology Centre Te Puawānanga. In her role at Satellite she’s part of the team creating technology for Event Registration, Access Control and Guest Management. With over 3 million users through Satellite’s event platform TAG in the last few years she’s worked across conferences, music festivals, trade shows, expo, sporting tournaments, global leadership events, Museums and galleries. In addition Nikki and Satellite are creating and installing digital activations for brands and customers at events, delivering new tech and customer engagement experiences in New Zealand and overseas.     Meet the Judges! Into his second year of judging, David Inns joined the panel. David Inns finished his tenure as CEO of Chief Executive of the Auckland Arts Festival in August 2022 having led the festival through ten iterations since March 2009, including leading the strategic decision to take Auckland Arts Festival from a biennial to an annual event in 2016. David has 35+ years of experience in senior arts management and production roles internationally and within New Zealand including Chief Executive – New Zealand International Arts Festival Trust 2002-2009, Technical Director – WOMAD NZ 2003 – 2007, Executive Director – Taranaki Arts Festival Trust 1998 - 2002, and Technical Director – Assembly Theatre, Edinburgh Festival 1996 - 2001. Over these years in the festival’s world, David has built extensive networks with many arts organisations within New Zealand and internationally and, together with the Artistic Directors, was instrumental in securing large scale events for Festivals. He has played a key role in commissioning, developing, and presenting numerous new Aotearoa and international works across multiple genres, both in New Zealand and offshore. David has an extensive education and production background and led Auckland Festival Trust’s delivery of Auckland’s Queens Wharf entertainment and events programme during Rugby World Cup 2011, World Masters Games 2016, and the British Lions Tour 2017. David is now based in Wellington working on a freelance consulting basis in the arts and event industry with companies including Tāwhiri Festival and Events.     The inaugural Footy Fundraiser to support the work of MusicHelps. Music and sport, they both help with your mental health. All profit raised from this events will go towards MusicHelps programmes which assist the NZ Music community through their wellbeing service, Benevolent Fund and Legacy programme. This event is open to anyone in the music industry that wants to participate. It doesn’t matter if you have never played or if you are convinced you should have been a premier league starter, (but no one ever gave you that chance) The event will include at least four games per team, Bobby Brazuka spinning some tunes on the decks, and a silent auction, all to help support MusicHelps!
