  • Mōrena Auckland/Northland Emerging Planners, Join us in celebrating the “On the Horizon” event, held on Wednesday the 12th of June, hosted at the Aurecon offices 🌟 The evening featured an inspiring lineup of speakers who are focused on the future. They focused on themes such as #transformation, #housing and #climatechange 🌏 Below are some highlights from their talks 💭 Jenny Larking – Head of City Centre Programmes at Auckland Council 🏙️   Jenny shared her involvement in leading the Auckland city centre transformation projects. Tangible progress is being made, and she updated us on the transformation moves to unlock the potential of the city centre. The vision of access for everyone - reallocating street space to benefit people, operations, and street functions. The challenges of construction disruptions to businesses and residents are acknowledged, and street-level activations are being implemented to support the locals. Other discussions covered challenges such as reallocating resources between multiple entities, scheduling different stages of work, and policy obstacles.     Greer O'Donnell - Co-director of The Urban Advisory 🏠 Greer turned the lens to the area of homes and housing, fundamental components of our city. She elaborated the significance of meaningful public participation in addressing Aotearoa’s major challenges, such as housing. Greer introduced the Aotearoa Housing Survey they are running, which aims to create a comprehensive dataset providing insights into current and future housing needs and demographics —essentially, understanding what housing everyone wants. You can access the survey link here: https://lnkd.in/g7NffGwX Alec Tang at KPMG in the Sustainable Value team 🌿   Alec presented the climate scenarios approach as a tool to challenge mental models and broaden foresight. Solutions needs to consider greater complexity and diversity in outcomes, perspectives and possibilities. Alec introduced his recent work on the soon to be released Transport Sector Climate Change Scenarios for The Aotearoa Circle (https://lnkd.in/gpjuC4UN). Key takeaways from the report are summarised in the photo of Alec’s presentation below. An interesting point was raised about the financial mechanisms behind climate risks on business operations from a corporate perspective.   We thank our esteemed speakers for their time and dedication to urban renewal 💡 #urbanplanning #emergingplanners #sustainbility #onthehorizon
