"Australian Securities and Investments Commission v Mercer Superannuation (Australia) Limited 2024 [FCA] 850" has significant implications for greenwashing in climate reporting. This was the first substantial greenwashing case brought by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), resulting in a landmark penalty of $11.3 million against Mercer Superannuation. The court found that Mercer had misled investors by marketing its "Sustainable Plus" investment options as excluding investments in fossil fuels, alcohol, and gambling, while in reality, these funds included investments in companies from these sectors. The case underscores the importance of accuracy in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) claims. The Court emphasized the need for providers to have reliable systems in place to ensure their ESG statements are accurate and not misleading. This case serves as a strong warning to reporting entities about the seriousness of making unsubstantiated ESG claims. The outcome reflects a broader regulatory movement towards stricter enforcement of greenwashing claims, aiming to protect those that rely on ESG credentials in their investment and procurement decisions. This ruling may well influence future legal and regulatory actions, reinforcing the necessity for transparent and verifiable ESG reporting. The case demonstrates the growing scrutiny and regulatory action against greenwashing in corporate reporting, ensuring that companies make truthful and substantiated environmental claims

The Myth of Zero-Emission Electric Buses Electric buses are often labelled as zero-emission, but this depends on the source of their charging electricity. Without renewable energy, they cannot be truly zero-emission. Accurate carbon reporting and energy transparency are essential.

Our ambition is to play a pivotal role in the transition to cleaner energy, and wind power is at the heart of this transition. Accurate wind measurements are essential for planning successful wind farms, both onshore and offshore. Recently we installed meteorological masts, known as met masts, at our proposed Northern Tablelands Wind Farm Project site. These met masts, combined with other technologies, provide crucial data on wind speed, direction, and other vital weather parameters. This data is essential for perfecting our planning and making sure we harness the full potential of wind energy. Building large hydrogen and renewable energy projects.

What is PEM Hydrogen electrolysis and how does it compare to Alkaline. As the world grapples with the challenges of climate change and energy security, the quest for sustainable and renewable energy sources has never been more critical. One technology that has gained significant attention in this regard is electrolysis, specifically Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) and Alkaline electrolysis. PEM is recognized as a promising technology for the sustainable production of green hydrogen from water and intermittent renewable energy sources and the most desired technology for high purity hydrogen production, hydrogen also has great potential to be an alternative fuel in the future with greater energy efficiency, small mass-volume characteristic, easy handling, and maintenance. The dynamic operation of electrolyzers can improve stability and flexibility of the electric grid by providing more demand response capabilities and substantial efforts have been devoted to the development of advanced electrocatalysts to improve electrolytic efficiency and reduce the cost of PEM. While both PEM and Alkaline electrolysis are methods of using electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen gases, they differ in the type of electrolyte solution that is used and the kind of membrane that separates the anode and cathode. Alkaline is generally considered to be more cost-effective than PEM for producing hydrogen gas on a large scale. Mainly because the materials and equipment used in alkaline are typically less expensive than those used in PEM. However, PEM has some advantages over alkaline in terms of the purity of the hydrogen gas produced(99.999%), which is often required for many applications but the process is generally more energy-intensive than alkaline. One of the key advantages of PEM over Alkaline electrolysis is its superior performance in terms of grid stability. The dynamic operation of electrolyzers can improve stability and flexibility of the electric grid by providing more demand response capabilities. This characteristic of PEM makes it more adaptable to fluctuations in the power supply, which is a common feature of renewable energy sources like wind and solar power. Another advantage is that due to the membrane used in PEM electrolysers, the explosion rate between hydrogen and oxygen is at a minimum compared with that in alkaline electrolysers. This makes PEM safer and more reliable, which is crucial for maintaining grid stability. The future of renewable energy is bright with technologies like PEM and Alkaline electrolysis. The choice will ultimately depend on the specific needs and requirements of the application. Regardless of the choice, both technologies play a crucial role in our transition towards a more sustainable energy future. https://lnkd.in/eqyzxycw https://lnkd.in/dP4sy4mD

🌱💡 Accelerate the Transition to Renewable Energy! 🌍 Investment funds have a unique opportunity to drive impactful change by mandating that all portfolio investments procure zero emissions electricity 24/7 using tools like PATtech's “Provenance Attribute Token” (PATs).   Imagine the transformative impact: Dramatic CO2 Reduction: Aligning investments with zero emissions electricity and reporting rights drastically reduces the fund's represented CO2 emissions, showcasing a true commitment to sustainability. Accelerated Renewable Energy Adoption: Increased demand for clean energy incentivizes further investment in renewable projects, propelling the shift towards a greener future.   It's time to lead by example. Let’s ensure our investments not only grow financially but also contribute to a sustainable and thriving planet. 🌿🌞   #SustainableInvesting #RenewableEnergy #ZeroEmissions #ClimateAction #ImpactInvesting #KiwiSaver #NewZealand #Australia #ImpactFunds #CarbonNeutral #GreenFuture #EcoFriendlyInvesting #CleanEnergy #GreenInvestments #SustainableFinance #ESG #ClimateLeadership #GreenInnovation #fundsleadingthetransition

Common Misunderstandings in First-Time GHG Reporting – Focus on Scope 2 🌍 Mastering Greenhouse Gas Reporting: Avoid These Common Pitfalls! 🌍 Organisations diving into greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reporting often stumble upon challenges, especially concerning Scope 2 emissions. Here are some prevalent misunderstandings and tips to tackle them: 🌿 Scope 2 is Just Indirect Emissions Remember, Scope 2 emissions encompass purchased electricity, steam, heating, and cooling. Don’t mix them up with Scope 3 emissions, which cover other indirect emissions. 🌿 One-Size-Fits-All Approach Tailor your data collection and reporting processes to match your unique energy consumption patterns accurately. 🌿 Ignoring Market-Based Methods Don’t overlook the market-based method when calculating emissions – it considers factors like renewable energy certificates (RECs). 🌿 Inaccurate Data Collection Accurate metering and documentation of energy usage are key for precise Scope 2 calculations. 🌿 Not Procuring Zero Emission Reporting Rights Ensure you procure zero emission reporting rights to avoid higher emissions factors in your Scope 2 reporting. 🌿 Overlooking Updates in Reporting Standards Stay informed with evolving GHG Protocol guidelines and standards to maintain compliance. 🌿 Lack of Internal Collaboration Internal collaboration across departments is crucial for comprehensive and accurate GHG reporting. Let's enhance our GHG reporting for a greener world! 🌱 #GHGReporting #Sustainability #Scope2 #ClimateAction #GreenEnergy Need help navigating your GHG reporting journey? Feel free to reach out!
