We are very proud to be global signatories to the United Nations Womens Empowerment Principles. Also, very grateful to be recognised by United Nations’ Women’s Empowerment Principles both in the Principle 6 and SME Business categories with two White Camellia Awards. We were the only law firm to win awards this year among competition such as Simpson Grierson, Russell McVeagh and many others. I encourage all businesses and organisations to engage with UNWEPS - by celebrating equitable practices you will not only improve your own business, you will also help make Aotearoa more just.

I write in support of Dr Ang Jury, and share her frustration regarding the political treatment of family violence. While it is understandable in the lead-up to a general election for political parties to try to capture votes, there remains a duty to ensure basic human rights remain front-and-centre. Family violence is a problem that transcends political ideology, creed, culture or gender. It is a problem we all share responsibility for, and the metrics that show New Zealand as a leader in this area (not in a good way) causes me to worry about the health of our society. Here's the thing: family violence is not like cancer, it's like pain. It's a symptom of a much deeper problem. Family violence doesn't exist in a vacuum, it is enabled by a sick society. Fellow Kiwis please take note of this epidemic. If you read this and want to help then write something on LinkedIn or Facebook, or wherever you have some influence. Don't just like this post and move on - at least share it. In fact - don't you dare JUST like this post... that is not taking responsibility... all that does is tick a box. The solution to our national problem of family violence lies within each of us: we all have a voice, we all can ensure this problem remains top-of-mind. Ang Jury is rightly worried that family violence is not on our politician's minds right now, because they are our leaders and we expect them to show leadership in the tough areas. Fix the problems of our society and you will fix family violence. Ignore family violence at your peril. #familyviolence #womensrefuge #whiteribbon #womensempowerment #familylaw
