We had a fabulous night last night at our Kick Back event. I am always inspired and encouraged by the courage and conviction of our young leaders. Some of the key themes of the night were, that our young people are tired of decisions being made for them by people who do not know nor understand them, that our rangatahi need care, love and healing, not prison bars and punitive punishments, that if we continue to refuse to pay adequate attention to the unhealthy environments (i.e emergency accomodation, homelessness, poverty, etc) shaping the behavior of our children, we will struggle to see change. It was an awesome kōrero. Thanks to each of our leaders from our Kick Back rangatira rōpū for supporting the kaupapa. To Mana for partnering with us for the event and RainbowYOUTH for the beatiful koha of their whare. And of course to our good mate Chlöe Swarbrick, thanks for always showing up for our rangatahi. Appreciate you e hoa. #KickBackMakeChange

We're super excited to introduce to you our new Executive Director: Courtney Sina Meredith!! Courtney is a distinguished cultural leader and author whose work across community, creativity, education, and culture, draws on her Sāmoan and Mangaian roots. She was the Director of Tautai Pacific Arts Trust from 2018 – 2022 leading the organisation through the pandemic while tripling the team, the premises, and increasing funding by 94% through to 2026. Courtney has been awarded prestigious opportunities from being invited to the House of Lords in London to discuss Britain’s cultural future to sharing her poetry in the gardens of Frida Kahlo in Mexico City. Her academic acknowledgements include an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Iowa in 2016, awarded as Young Alumna of the Year by the University of Auckland in 2021, and her works are taught globally from schools across the Pacific to graduate studies at UCLA. Her success exists in unknown moments, in the hopeful quiet relief of people who look like her and love like her. Or, so she trusts in the atua, while writing this. Courtney lives with her partner renowned artist Janet Lilo (Te Rarawa, Sāmoa, Niue) and their three sons and spoilt pooch in Tāmaki Aukilani. We're so stoked to have her as part of the RY whanau and for her to lead us into the new year. Courtney will be starting on the 11th of December

It’s Transgender Week of Awareness, which runs from Monday 13 November to Sunday 19 November, followed by Transgender Day of Remembrance on Monday 20 November. It’s a time to celebrate and empower our trans, non-binary and gender diverse whānau, and remember the trans people we’ve lost in the last year. We know it’s been a tough year for our transgender, non-binary, irawhiti takatāpui and MVPFAFF+ communities, so it’s important for us to come together in solidarity, joy, remembrance and resistance. OutLine has partnered with our friends at RainbowYOUTH to bring you two events this year. Join us for a clothing swap on Thursday 16 November, and a Transgender Day of Remembrance service on Monday 20 November. More event details here: https://lnkd.in/g6SY27df OutLine works year-round to provide support for Aotearoa's trans and non-binary communities, as well as those questioning. We provide a free and confidential support line at 0800 OUTLINE, and an online chat support service. Both services are available every day from 6pm to 9pm. OutLine also offers rainbow specialist counselling, an Auckland-based trans and non-binary peer support service, and a peer support network for survivors of conversion practices. To find out more about these services, or to make a donation, visit https://outline.org.nz

    • Trans pride flag, plus the OutLine logo in the trans pride colours of pink, blue and white. Text reads: “Trans Week of Awareness. Trans Week Clothing Swap, RY Drop-In Centre, 6pm, Thursday 16 Nov. Trans Day of Remembrance, Māngere Arts Centre, 6.30pm, Monday 20 Nov.”

Next week is Transgender Week of Awareness, followed by Transgender Day of Remembrance on Monday 20 November. It’s a time to celebrate and empower our trans, non-binary and gender diverse whānau, and remember the trans people we’ve lost in the last year. We know it's been a tough year for our transgender, non-binary, irawhiti takatāpui and MVPFAFF+ communities, so it's important for us to come together in solidarity, joy and remembrance. Transgender Day of Remembrance honours the memory of trans people around the world whose lives were taken in acts of anti-transgender violence. It is marked every year on 20 November.   OutLine is hosting a remembrance service with guest speakers from Aotearoa's trans communities. There will be an opportunity to light candles in remembrance, followed by a chance to connect with other trans folx over kai. The service will be held from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Monday 20 November at Māngere Arts Centre, located at the corner of Bader Drive and Orly Avenue in Māngere, Auckland. We hope the new location this year will make the service more inclusive and accessible for our trans, non-binary, irawhiti takatāpui and MVPFAFF+ communities. This year's service is brought to you by OutLine with support from our friends at RainbowYOUTH.

Big news whānau!! After dedicating five years to RainbowYOUTH, our Executive Director Pooja has decided to move onto the next chapter in her life at the end of December! This has left some big shoes to fill, and a massive opportunity for someone to join the RainbowYOUTH whānau as our Executive Director. You’ll get to work alongside our General and Māori Executive Boards and lead our management team to ensure we’re delivering consistently on our kaupapa. This is a great opportunity for anybody who wants to level up in their career and be a crucial part of helping rainbow rangatahi thrive in Aotearoa. We're welcoming expressions of interest for this role! More info here: ttps://https://lnkd.in/gMDtujsg
