"Judgement – that's something you have to deal with a lot when coming out of prison. You’ll be out in public, in a crowded place, maybe at the park or on the train, and you can’t help but feel people are looking at you differently, thinking something bad about you. Even here, in Newmarket, I feel out of place – like a don’t really belong here. Or maybe it’s just all in my head? I try not to think about it too much. I just deal with it by getting on with what I'm meant to do – like this course. I hadn’t really used computers before Take2, just played games like Miniclip and all that. I didn’t understand the work that went in behind it. It’s buzzy being here, learning all this stuff. They don’t promise us anything in terms of jobs, but the life skills we’re learning are really useful no matter what. Like coping with anxiety. Anxiety is a big problem in prisons, but in this course we get help to deal with anxiety and confidence, especially when presenting in front of people. Patience is another one. You have to be patient and consistent – keep going at it and eventually something will give and you'll get something out of it. You have to be patient with the code, just like you have to be patient with your kids. My family is a big part of my life. Spending time with them was what I missed the most when I was in prison. I was at Mt Eden for two years. It was not somewhere I ever thought I’d be. You know when they talk about rock bottom? That was rock bottom for me. But you know, you learn good things in a bad place, and I just promised myself I'd never go back there. I was quite fortunate to come out before my first son was born. My kids and I are always doing stuff together now. We go to the park to kick a ball around, or we practice boxing. I put the pads on them and I get a buzz out of seeing them smile when they get their hands moving. It’s sometimes tricky to find support for the kids. I’ve tried to get assistance, but it’s hard. I guess that’s how the system works. Anyway, I don’t let my personal life get in the way when I’m at the course. I know what my mission is."

🌟 Take2 Shines at the Parliamentary Innovative Tech Showcase! 🌟 Take2 was thrilled to be among the innovative exhibitors at this year’s Parliamentary Innovative Tech Showcase, organised by the Tech Council of Australia, on Monday 1 July. This annual event is a unique platform for showcasing cutting-edge innovations, engaging with top tech entrepreneurs, and interacting with key government stakeholders. What an incredible day! We had the pleasure of witnessing the new Governor General and Prime Minister Albanese speak, which was a truly unforgettable experience. Our stand attracted significant interest, with many attendees keen to learn more about Take2 and support our mission, from public service officials to big names like Indeed and LinkedIn. We also had the good fortune of speaking with special advisors, who provided invaluable tips and advice. The event featured a diverse array of speakers from fields such as quantum technology, cybersecurity, and agricultural technology, underscoring the breadth of innovation on display. Overall, it was an amazing opportunity to represent Take2. We were immensely proud to share our vision, mission, and stories with the attendees. Our conversations underscored that people are at the heart of everything we do, and technology is just one of many tools we use to empower them. 🌟 Embracing Mindfulness: Welcoming Akriti to Mary Wade 🌟 We had an incredible meditation and mindfulness workshop recently in the Mary Wade classroom, led by the wonderful Akriti Sharma from the Kirby Institute & the Good Data Institute. Our students were exceptionally open and receptive to all the activities, including object attention, body scans, and mindful communication, amongst others. 🌿✨ Akriti shared invaluable techniques and strategies for incorporating mindfulness and meditation into daily life, highlighting the personal and professional benefits. It was a truly enlightening experience for everyone involved. Our teachers were thrilled to join the workshop, learning as much as the students did! This workshop was the perfect way to kick off the next chapter of our self-transformation curriculum. We are excited to continue fostering an environment that nurtures growth, mindfulness, and overall well-being.
