Over 600 children in football, netball, hockey and rugby were celebrated at the Unison Medal Ceremonies held at Toitoi - Hawke's Bay Arts & Events Centre last week. These ceremonies marked the end of the junior winter sports season for 2024, recognising the discipline, hard work and fair play demonstrated by young sports people both on and off the field. "Celebrating the tamariki for their hard work, discipline and fair play is really important to us. As a consumer-owned company, we're extremely proud to support and showcase events and organisations that support the wellbeing, health and development of the children in our regions. “The values recognised are not only important for sport but also for ensuring the next generation plays their role alongside Unison in powering thriving communities," says Unison General Manager Commercial and Regulatory, Jason Larkin. Last week, we took an important step in engaging directly with our communities across Rotorua, Taupō, and Hawke’s Bay by sharing Unison’s 10-Year Asset Management Plan. This was a chance to connect, learn, and discuss the future of electricity distribution in our communities. It was fantastic to see such a diverse turnout, with city councillors, engineers, industry experts, and local residents all contributing to meaningful discussions on topics like infrastructure development, energy storage, and the rise of electric vehicles. Thank you to everyone who attended and shared your thoughts. Your feedback is invaluable as we continue to shape our future plans. If you didn’t make it along to the in-person events there is still time to share your thoughts in our short survey: https://bit.ly/4d5Oexe Survey closes August 30.

An exciting opportunity is now available for a suitably qualified and experienced Project Management professional to join our team based in Hastings. Reporting to the Network Programme Delivery Manager, you will take ownership of key non-network related projects from conception through to delivery. Such projects will be non-technical by nature, but will have a direct, or indirect, affect on the assets that comprise Unison’s electricity distribution network. In addition, you will contribute, as required, to the efficient and effective delivery of Unison’s Annual Works. This includes the ongoing management and refinement of Unison’s Vegetation Strategy. A little about us ⚡ we own, design, manage and operate the electricity distribution network that serves the Hawke’s Bay, Taupo and Rotorua regions. We enable the communities in these regions to prosper by delivering customers' energy needs through a dynamic, flexible and sustainable electricity system.

Continuing into term three, we completed our fifth mentoring session with Hastings Girls' High School. This session focused on preparing for the group's community project. Students and mentors worked together to weave harakeke kete (flax bags), which will be filled with playing cards and kind messages for our visit to Gracelands, where we’ll spend time with the elderly. The students demonstrated incredible resilience as they learned the challenging art of flax weaving. During this activity, we also reviewed their progress with their individual SMART goals. At Unison, caring for the wellbeing of our communities is one of our values. We are proud to have partnered with the Graeme Dingle Foundation in Hawke’s Bay and Rotorua for the past three years. #Mentoring #UnisonMentors #GraemeDingleFoundation #PoweringThrivingRegions

Yesterday we had the pleasure of hosting students from Hastings Girls' High School at our Fernhill yard in Hastings. They experienced a taste of a day in the life at Unison. The students worked with de-energised equipment, learning about daily tasks performed by some of our team. They controlled an air break switch, operated a ring main unit and even climbed a power pole. Their enthusiasm and willingness to learn were truly impressive. Thank you to the students for actively participating. This visit was part of the Career Navigator Programme by the Graeme Dingle Foundation, which we've proudly supported in Hawke's Bay and Rotorua for over three years. #GraemeDingleFoundation #GreatPlacetoWork #PoweringThrivingRegions
