Meet Coralie Hockey, a Senior Projects Engineer at WSP in Tairāwhiti Gisborne. She’s the type of leader who believes no job is too small and is the first to put her hand up to help a team member. When she has a spare moment - in between keeping projects running smoothly - there’s a good chance she’s mountain-biking or tramping across the motu 🚵 Don’t miss out on Coralie’s dynamic career path that led her all the way from The University of Auckland to Nepal, and now Gisborne. #WeAreWSP

Why does the lion’s share of infrastructure spending go to new capital projects, while a smaller slice of the pie goes to maintenance and renewals? Technical director for asset management Wayne Hatcher believes the reason originates deep in our national psyche and argues for an urgent rebalancing of the numbers. #AssetManagement

Here’s a sneak peek of our session: Our WSP experts from around the world teamed up in a video about time-of-use charging, delving into innovative solutions for fair, effective, and eco-friendly urban congestion management. Highlights included: How Stockholm and Gothenburg solved traffic problems with smart pricing strategies. Lessons from the challenges faced by cities like Cambridge and New York in implementing congestion charging or time-of-use schemes. This was followed by an industry panel, who explored lessons learned from overseas, how best to get the community on board and implement time-of-use schemes. Curious to learn more? By embracing Māori principles of Kaitiakitanga (guardianship) and Manaakitanga (hospitality), we strengthen our commitment to sustainability and respectful partnerships. Thank you, Josiah Simmonds, for beautifully illustrating how we can achieve this. "E tio te tūī, e ketekete te kākā, e korihi to kokako." It takes many voices to create a symphony—there is strength in diversity. #WeAreWSP #WSPWater

WSP NZ under our Rautaki Māori (Māori Strategy) defines our commitment to and importance of working with Māori, the Indigenous people of Aotearoa New Zealand. Integral to this is the ability to support our staff in this space.    Staff value the ability to connect within a cultural setting and benefit from the knowledge and insights shared from representatives of respective iwi (tribes) and hapū (sub tribes). The photos share a recent experience where we were able to do exactly this within the rohe/area of Waikato Tainui and hence we acknowledge Kingi Tuheitia and Waikato Tainui. Some of our Māori staff visited Te Papa-o-Roto Marae* and were welcomed into this beautiful space by the hau kāinga (local representatives). On these occasions, staff benefit from the connections made with hau kāinga, learn the history and connections of mana whenua (local Māori) to the surrounding area and gained valuable insights into the aspirations, pressures and priorities for hau kāinga.   Within this setting our staff can undertake professional development, strategy and work plan development, and team building within a cultural setting recognising tikanga (protocols) and kawa (customs).     In addition, we dedicated time to a Taiao (environment) Session, where we get into the environment and participate in cultural practises. We gained great insight into Māori/Polynesian navigation through a celestial frame as well as the relevance and connections within an environmental frame eg migration of species and climatic trends. Staff were able to participate in other cultural practises such as experience sailing a waka (canoe). *Marae are a key feature of Māori society. The marae is a place where Māori language and customs are expressed, and important ceremonies are held. Marae are a 'sacred place' and carry great cultural meaning.   #WeAreWSP #InternationalDayofTheWorldsIndigenousPeoples

This Rail Safety Week, we’re sharing an important reminder from KiwiRail and TrackSAFE Foundation: be like Steely Stan and Steely Stu, take a good look to both the left and right before crossing, and remember: “Steely Stare. Steely Stare. All clear!” #steelystare #steelystareallclear #alwayslookfortrains #RailSafetyWeek

This year Steely Stan will be joined by his city slicker mate, Steely Stu, who he watches over as he navigates a busy city level crossing.   Be like Steely Stan and Steely Stu, take a good look to both the left and right before crossing and remember ‘Steely Stare. Steely Stare. All clear!”   #steelystare #steelystareallclear #alwayslookfortrains

A big thank you to the hau kāinga (local representatives) for recently welcoming our WSP in New Zealand team to Te Papa-o-Rotu Marae - a sacred place where Maori culture and traditions are expressed. Here we were able to team build within a cultural setting recognizing protocols and customs and benefitting from the connections made with mana whenua (local Māori). We had a great time participating in cultural practices such as waka (canoe) sailing and Māori/ Polynesian celestial navigation. #WeAreWSP #LifeAtWSP
