About us

Youthline is a collection of organisations that work together to make sure young people are able to get the best support, when they need it. We work with young people, their familes and those supporting young people. Our organisations are made up of volunteer and paid staff members - and we have centres based across the country. We were proudly established in 1970 by a group of people who realised that there were not a lot of options for young people needing to access help and development services. We understand that sometimes it can be difficult asking for support. It can also be difficult working out who to contact for what. To make sure it's as easy as possible to use our services, and other services who work with young people, we make sure that we have good relationships across the country with other providers so that we can point you in the direction of local services.

Congratulations to our Pro Bono Partner Shan Wilson who was recently named as one of the most influential lawyers in Aotearoa in NZ Lawyer's 'changemaker' awards category 👏👏 The announcement was hot on the heels of the launch of the fourth edition of Invested for Good, our annual Pro Bono Report 🤝 In this year's Report, we’re highlighting the work we’ve done to support our incredible community partners: Lads Without Labels, #Wingspan Trust, #MothersProject, #MonteCeciliaHousingTrust and #MauaoTrust. As the first law firm in Aotearoa to appoint a full-time Pro Bono Partner in 2020, we’re proud to see our commitment to pro bono grow over the years. In the last 12 months, as a firm we have invested 7,300 pro bono hours into supporting our community partners – averaging around 35 hours per lawyer. Shan Wilson says of this year's Report: “I’m tremendously proud of how our team has been able to upskill through pro bono work and how we’ve all collectively been able to support each other. “Pro bono work has opened up opportunities for more client contact at an earlier level of qualification, promoted development of problem solving skills and encouraged staff to learn new areas of law. “Most importantly, it provides our people with the chance to use their legal skills to support charities and individuals who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford legal advice.” Read more about the significance of pro bono to our firm, the special community partners we’ve been working with and why pro bono is so valuable to our lawyers when it comes to professional growth. https://lnkd.in/d_gZwPsQ #probono #simpsongrierson #investedforgood

This National Volunteer Week, we want to recognise everyone who dedicates their time to important causes, such as Youthline 💛💙 Matthew, one of our ASB volunteers supporting Youthline says, “The work Youthline are doing for youth mental health is life-changing. Through their comprehensive training programme I learned how to effectively listen, connect and create a safe space for others. I’m proud to play my part and hopefully help someone along the way.” Youthline’s Helpline is nationwide, and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to support our rangatahi when they need it most. We are proud to be on this journey with them. Thank you to Matthew and all volunteers across Aotearoa New Zealand who give their time to this vital service 👏 #NVW2024

Last Friday, on the 14th of June, our Good2Great free full-day workshop took place at ILT Stadium Southland in Invercargill, in collaboration with Central Southland College, Aurora College, Verdon College, and Southland Boys College, as well as with the support of Ministry of Social Development (MSD), Simpson Grierson, and Youthtown Inc. New Zealand. The workshop aimed to equip young individuals with practical tools to manage stress, build self-confidence and resilience, and take charge of their thoughts, feelings, and actions. We were privileged to welcome a special guest, Judah Metu-Teaukura, also known as Judaxx, a renowned content creator famous for her comedy skits and lifestyle content on TikTok, where she has nearly 850,000 followers and was awarded TikTok Creator of the Year in 2023. With a staggering 42.6 million TikTok likes, Judah continues to expand her influence across multiple platforms, including Instagram where she has 102k followers, sharing positivity and gratitude towards her family, followers, and life. We extend our gratitude to Judah for gracing our event and inspiring the youth in attendance. Her presence undoubtedly left a lasting impression, with the key takeaways from the event emphasising the importance of kindness, helping others, being sensible, emotional management, speaking up, positivity, recognising shared experiences, and adopting diverse stress management strategies. Thank you, Judah, for your contribution! #youthline #good2great

I had the privilege of attending the Good2Great event in Murihiku today. It was inspiring to meet young people showing great leadership qualities! It was a sweet bonus being able to recognise some inspiring leaders with One NZ Warriors merch! A big thanks to Krista Farley from Youthline Southland for inviting me. Good2Great is a fantastic collaboration between Youthline, the Ministry of Youth Development, Simpson Grierson, and Youthtown Inc. New Zealand. It helps young Kiwis recognise their inner awesome and tackle life's challenges. 🎦 SBHS vs CSC 'Chant Off'

We’re thrilled to announce our new corporate partnership with The Urban Physio. Recently we had the privilege of visiting their beautiful clinic in Ponsonby, where we got to meet their wonderful team. We discussed the state of youth mental wellbeing in Aotearoa and how crucial their support is to us. A big thank you to the entire team at The Urban Physio for rallying behind us and our mission, enabling us to sustain our free Helpline for young people in New Zealand. Having businesses like The Urban Physio supporting us is essential for our continued operation. As the need for mental health support grows in our communities so do the costs for organisations like ours. If like the Urban Physio, your business is passionate about helping young people navigate their toughest moments, emerging as resilient, thriving members of their communities, please reach out to us at [email protected]. Our young people are our future, let’s work together to help make the future better.

Watch as our CEO Shae Ronald reflects on her recent life changing Outward Bound New Zealand leadership experience. A huge thank you to the Joyce Fisher Charitable Trust and Outward Bound for making this possible through this fully funded course specifically designed for not-for-profit CEOs and charity sector leaders. A very worthwhile cause to participate in and support!

CEOs in the charity sector often receive significantly less investment in professional and personal development opportunities than their counterparts in other sectors. Despite facing similar demands and challenges, this underinvestment creates a ripple effect that impacts the teams they lead, further widening the development gap at an organisational organisational level. To help close this gap, we partnered with Joyce Fisher Charitable Trust to offer a fully funded course specifically designed for not-for-profit CEOs and charity sector leaders. The course provided these leaders with five days of intensive learning, pushing their limits and offering new insights into their leadership styles. Thanks to Shae Ronald (CEO of Youthline) and Will Ward (CEO of WALSH trust) for sharing their reflections on their time spent in Anakiwa and ka rawe to all the participants who took part in this inaugural course. If you’re in a position to give, please donate today to transform and empower the future leaders of Aotearoa through Outward Bound. https://lnkd.in/gBEpK2tZ
