What are the most effective ways to engage investors in sustainability, and how can PR help?
At the start of the ESG journey - and sometimes further along the way too, discomfort will arise. Here is where past investment in accuracy, reliability and transparency will serve you well: always disclose areas of difficulty or disappointment as clearly as you can. When you also provide options and timelines for remedying the situation and reporting progress, this is likely to increase rather than diminish investor trust.

Long form radio interviews are also a great way to convey some of the finer detail. Interested investors will find these, especially if the recordings and articles are publicized on social media. Presentations at conferences and meetings of the relevant professional associations are also great ways to engage with investors.

What are the most effective ways to engage investors in sustainability, and how can PR help?
These days there are many globally-recognised sets of indicators that can help organizations measure progress towards sustainability goals. The UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) identify 17 sustainability areas, while the World Economic Forum issues an annually updated set of risks in which environmental risk are consistently in the top right quadrant of highest risk and highest likelihood or urgency. These help clarify issues of interest to investors that organizations' sustainability goals can address. Other great sets of indicators for reporting on ESG are the GRI, or Global Reporting Index, and the Natural Capital Protocol. Worldwide, 70+ stock exchanges require listed firms to report on these, so investors can assess risk.
