A person sustained serious injuries in a shooting on a troubled stretch of Highway 29 in Vallejo late Friday evening.

The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. near the intersection of Sonoma Boulevard and Alabama Street, according to dispatch audio. Approximately five minutes after the initial report of gunfire, a person arrived at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center with a life-threatening gunshot wound, police said.

Rifle casings were scattered across the ground in front of the Sense Salon at 2418 Sonoma Boulevard. Police cordoned off the road between Alabama and Louisiana Streets, placing evidence markers and searching the area with flashlights. At least one individual was taken into custody. The condition of the victim was not immediately known.

The area has been the site of other recent tragedies. Last Saturday, a police chase ended in a fiery crash, killing one person and sending five others to local hospitals.
