Let’s Go Fishing!

To date, NPF has helped 5,000 young people earn their Junior Ranger Angler badge! NPF is excited to introduce this year’s cohort of Junior Ranger Angler grantees. With support from Niantic and Sun Outdoors, the Junior Ranger Angler program helps children have joyful experiences in national parks through fishing — experiences that inspire a lifelong love for the outdoors.

Celebrate LGBTQ+ History in Parks

Chronicling the rich histories of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) Americans is essential to tell a more complete history of the United States, including that of our national parks. Explore LGBTQ+ stories in parks – past, present, and future – as well as the work NPF does to support these communities.

Capturing Winning Park Moments

Honoring Juneteenth

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when 250,000 enslaved Black Americans in Texas learned of their freedom, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Recognized as a national holiday in 2021, it is the oldest celebration of slavery’s end in the U.S. On this day, NPS offers fee-free entrance to all national parks, encouraging reflection on our shared history. Learn more about NPF’s work to preserve African American narratives and explore ten national parks that honor Black history.

A Transformative Gift from Connie and Steve Ballmer

NPF announced a $25 million donation from Connie and Steve Ballmer to support its mission of protecting and preserving our national parks. This gift will aid in priority initiatives to benefit parks nationwide. The donation supports The Campaign for National parks, which aims to raise $1 billion by 2028.

Creating New Family Traditions

Susan and her two sons sit on a grassy hill for a family photo

After the loss of her husband, Susan was inspired by our national parks to make new traditions with her sons. Over many summers, they made lasting memories at multiple national parks: from the Northern Lights in Death Valley to the majesty of the mighty sequoias. These experiences moved Susan to make NPF a beneficiary of her IRA, to preserve the parks for the next 100 years—and beyond. Read more on our website.

This Month's Quiz

Which national park, due to its isolation, supports only four native mammals including the island fox?

Submit your answer

Congratulations to last month’s winner, Amy Mantooth from Tennessee, who knew that Dry Tortugas National Park is 99% underwater, located 70 miles from the Florida coast, and accessible only by seaplane or boat. Way to go, Amy!
