Hugh Jackman’s wife: Don’t call me lucky for marrying him

Deborra-Lee Furness says it’s disrespectful to call her “lucky” to be married to Hollywood heavy hitter Hugh Jackman.

“That to me is a putdown. [It’s] like you suggesting I won [a] … raffle. I think we create our own destiny,” the 58-year-old actress and Adopt Change founder told The Australian Women’s Weekly.

Furness, who’s been married to the Tony and Golden Globe winner for 18 years, lands at No. 10 on the magazine’s first-ever power list.

The mother of two — Oscar, 14, and Ava, 9 — says that outsiders don’t understand the hurdles she encounters, despite her family’s fame.

“When people look at my life, they don’t know the challenges [I face], just like I don’t know someone else’s [challenges],” she said.

In the past, Jackman, 45, has said that he’s the lucky one in the longtime couple’s marriage.

“She’s the greatest,” he gushed to YourTango.com in 2013. “I’m one of the lucky ones. She’s very wise, a great actress and a great wife and mother.”

When asked what is his secret to having a solid marriage, Jackman said: “You love each other — and respect each other. You truly want to be together.”
