VIPs join ‘It’s Only a Play’ cast for ‘reopening’ party

After the Broadway hit “It’s Only a Play” “reopened” Friday night at the Jacobs Theatre, the cast was joined for a party onstage by VIP guests in the audience including Steve Martin, Diane Sawyer, Larry David and Sarah Jessica Parker. (The show, starring Martin Short, Stockard Channing and Matthew Broderick, just relocated to the Jacobs because Helen Mirren’s moving into its old spot, the Gerald Schoenfeld, with a new show, “The Audience,” in which she plays Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II.)

The on-stage bash took place in a “plush bedroom” set, and spies said so much bubbly was uncorked, Delia Ephron quipped, “This play would certainly win the Tony for Best Use of Champagne on Broadway.”
