Iggy Azalea is having a tough time professionally.

On Monday, the 25-year-old Aussie rapper pulled the plug on performing at Pittsburgh Pride this weekend after alleged past homophobic tweets caused a stir.

“I am firm believer in equality,” wrote the newly engaged star in a lengthy message on Twitter. “Unfortunately in the past as a young person, I used words I should not have. The last thing I want is for something so careless said to be interpreted as reflective of my character.”

She continued by stating that she never intentionally meant to hurt anyone. “As an adult I would never use them because I understand they play a detrimental role in the fight for issues that I do truly believe in.”

Azalea, who has been the subject of plastic surgery speculation in recent times as well, says her participation would “only serve to further distract from the true purpose of the event.”

When news hit of Azalea’s scheduled performance, various Pittsburgh groups nixed their participation in the weekend celebration.

Vanessa Davis of the Pittsburgh chapter of Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network told the Post-Gazette her organization voted not to participate “due to the intensive choice of Iggy Azalea as a headliner.”

Azalea’s news comes less than two weeks after she canceled her Great Escape tour, which had been pushed back from March to September. At the time, she told Seventeen magazine she needed time off. “I just feel I deserve a break,” she detailed. “I’ve been going non-stop for the past two years, nearly every single day.”
