Ian McKellen supports pal Patrick Stewart’s new project

In the “X-Men” blockbusters, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are ultimate frenemies Charles Xavier and Magneto.

But the civilized off-screen pair palled around at an upscale bash for Stewart’s Starz series, “Blunt Talk,” Monday.

Jonathan Ames’ follow-up to his HBO cult hit “Bored to Death” follows a British news host in LA.

Guests included Joyce Carol Oates, Carl Bernstein, Chris Albrecht, Bill Bratton, Janice Min and Don Lemon.

Turning heads was the show’s transgender co-star Trace Lysette, “probably the most beautiful woman in the room,” a guest observed, who quickly added, “No disrespect to the other ladies at the party . . . Trace really stood out in that red dress!”
