At 76, Sir Ian McKellen is the life of the party

Sir Ian McKellen was the life of the party at the after-soiree for “Mr. Holmes” at Southgate on Monday.

“He shut that place down and was there until after midnight,” said a spy. “He circled the room and was just talking to everyone. He was super social and friendly.”

McKellen, who turned 76 in May, told us he likes to keep up with a younger crowd.

“Don’t be friends with people who are just your background or your age . . . get some young friends! They’ll see you through,” he advised.

In the Sherlock Holmes movie, “I play someone who is 93 and has outlived everybody he ever knew.”

The next day, spies saw the intrepid actor on the subway at rush hour to make it to a Q&A for the film after his comfy car got stuck in traffic.
