James Woods calls Bernie Sanders an ‘utter moron’

Bernie Sanders may have some fans in Hollywood, but actor James Woods certainly isn’t one of them.

The “White House Down” star took to Twitter to attack the Democratic presidential hopeful and Vermont senator for a comment Sanders made unfavorably comparing America’s maternity leave laws to China’s.

Sanders tweeted this week that despite China’s record of human rights violations, the nation still offers 14 weeks of paid maternity leave as opposed to zero in the US.

Woods wasn’t having it, and shot off a tweet telling the politician just what he thought of his tweet: “China has notoriously killed female infants for population control, you utter moron.”

While the Chinese government has mandated that women receive 14 weeks of fully paid maternity leave since 2011, the country still operates under the infamous one-child policy, although the law was relaxed in 2013, according to the New York Times.

Sanders, 74, did not reply to Woods’ tweet, but the actor — known for his harsh and unrelenting online criticism of President Barack Obama, whom he routinely calls the “worst president in history” — continued to heckle Sanders and fellow Democratic hopeful Hillary Clinton throughout the day.

As recently as 2013, it was reported that Woods, 68, was a registered Democrat, although he has publicly endorsed Republican presidential candidates John McCain and Mitt Romney in the last two elections. In this election cycle, the actor has thrown his support behind Republican Carly Fiorina.

It should be noted that the offending Sanders tweet originated from the @SenSanders account, one of two verified accounts tied to the politician (the other is @BernieSanders). The first account’s Twitter bio includes the note, “Tweets ending in -B are from Bernie, and all others are from a staffer.”
