Meghan McCain honored for work with LGBTQ community

Meghan McCain, daughter of John McCain, was presented last week with the Trevor Project NextGen’s first Ally Award for her support of the LGBTQ community.

“We’re not all Donald Trump, honey,” the Republican crowed to the crowd of her stance on gay marriage.

“When I came out for marriage equality in 2008, it was quite controversial,” she said. “There’s been a lot of progress culturally in this country, but legislatively . . . there’s still a lot of work to be done.”

McCain added: “Marriage equality has passed, but people can still get fired . . . for being gay or being trans. That is not American, and that is not the America I believe in.”
