Tom Hooper’s “The Danish Girl,” which has been called “Oscar catnip,” screened as part of the White House’s LGBT Artist Champions of Change event, where the director participated in a Q&A with others including “Transparent,” creator Jill Soloway and Beltway insiders Valerie Jarrett and Julián Castro.
Hooper said: “I think [Obama] is the first president to even use the word ‘transgender’ publicly. And to invite us into his home in this way, to talk about this subject, and allow us to screen ‘The Danish Girl,’ it’s a very special day.”
