Steven Spielberg and wife Kate Capshaw were in town on Sunday to support Spielberg’s “Bridge of Spies” star Mark Rylance in “Nice Fish” at St. Ann’s Warehouse theater.
But Rylance and the audience got a surprise during the curtain call: Through a trap door in the stage (from where, typically, one of the puppets used in the play pops out to “take a bow”), a hand emerged — holding the Best Supporting Actor Oscar statuette that Rylance won on Feb. 28.
Rylance (and his golden friend) received a standing ovation from the Spielberg family and the rest of the packed house. “Nice Fish” runs through March 27 at the theater on 45 Water St. in DUMBO.
