Demi Lovato celebrates four years of sobriety

Demi Lovato celebrated four years of sobriety Tuesday with an inspiring tweet.

“This last year I experienced so much life and too much death… But I made it through … Sober,” the “Confident” singer wrote.

Lovato, 22, who checked into rehab in 2012, has been candid about her battles with drug addiction and bulimia. Last spring, the former Disney darling opened up about her bipolar diagnosis on HuffPost Live.

“I was looking out my tour bus window, I was living my dream, and I was just sitting there, looking out the window and crying, thinking, ‘Why am I crying? What’s wrong with me?'” she said.

“Little did I know, there was a chemical imbalance in my brain. Because I didn’t tell people what I need, I ended up self-medicating and coping with unhealthy behaviors,” Lovato added. “I was dealing with bipolar depression and didn’t know what was wrong with me.”

Lovato cites boyfriend of five years, Wilmer Valderrama, 36, for helping her through the lowest points in her life.

“He never takes credit for my sobriety, but I guarantee I wouldn’t be alive without him today.”
