Residents grumble as Pierre Hotel renovation drags on

Owners of apartments at the Pierre Hotel are losing patience with a renovation project that has dragged on more than a year past its deadline, we’re told.

Parts of the landmark 5th Avenue building — which boasts Tory Burch, Kathy and Richard Hilton, and Barbara Zweig, widow of Wall Street titan Martin Zweig among its well-heeled residents — have been under scaffolding for so long that insiders are grumbling that it’s even making it difficult to sell properties there.

Currently seven of the apartments, including Zweig’s $57 million penthouse, are on the market for up to $70 million. We’re told the construction was originally scheduled to last a matter of weeks, and residents have now been promised that the project will wrap in November.

A spokesperson for the hotel told Page Six that the work is for routine maintenance that the city requires all landmark buildings to carry out.

“Unfortunately the work is taking a little bit longer than was hoped,” said a Pierre spokesperson. “Obviously the hotel would love this to be as quick and easy as possible for its guests and residents of the building, but it’s just a process that has to happen every few years under local law to make the building as secure as possible.”
