George and Amal Clooney are expecting … twins!
The news was confirmed by “The Talk” host Julie Chen during Thursday’s TV show. She later told TMZ that the couple was having a boy and a girl.
And twins are apparently trending these days.
“Beyoncé is not the only superstar expecting twins,” Chen said. “Congratulations are in order for George and Amal Clooney.”
Amal is due in June, she added.
Sources later confirmed the summer due date to AFP and Us Weekly. Family friends also told several British media outlets that the couple was, indeed, having a boy and a girl.
Rumors have swirled for weeks that Amal, 39, was pregnant after she was photographed wearing baggy clothing. At a screening for the Netflix documentary “The White Helmets” on Jan. 9, the human-rights lawyer donned a loose-fitting floral dress with black tights and black booties as she attended the event with her husband.
The 55-year-old actor can now add being a father to the already long list of things he said he would never do.
In 2006, he told People magazine that he never wanted kids.
Of course, he also famously had repeated — before tying the knot with the glamorous Amal in 2014 — that he never wanted to tie the knot again. He was previously married to actress Talia Balsam.
“I think it’s the most responsible thing you can do, to have kids,” George told People. “I think it’s the biggest responsibility you’ll have, and it’s not something to be taken lightly. I don’t have that thing in me that says, ‘must do it.’ I don’t see myself ever having kids. But everything in my life has changed over periods of time, and the world does change.”
In an interview with “Extra” in 2005, the then-notorious bachelor joked about the joy of having friends who have kids while not having to put in the legwork himself.
“You can play with them — they’re like nieces and nephews — and then you pump them full of sugar and shove them back to the parents,” he said.
The Oscar winner and Amal first met at a charity fundraiser in September 2013. They had been set up by a mutual friend, and after months of dating and PDA, were engaged in April 2014.
The couple wed during a beautiful and highly publicized Italian ceremony that September.
Their pregnancy news comes just days after Amal celebrated her 39th birthday with a lavish trip to Spain. A source told People that the pair “let everyone in both families know quietly” that they were expecting.
“They’re all very happy,” the insider said.
While the lovebirds have remained very private about their relationship in the past, George briefly spoke about his marriage to Amal in an interview with “Entertainment Tonight” in October, just days after their two-year anniversary.
“And they said it wouldn’t last,” George joked. “Ah, we proved them wrong!”
In October 2016, Page Six exclusively revealed that the couple bought permanent digs at luxury apartment building One Hundred East Fifty Third Street. Perhaps they’ve already started working on the babies’ room.
A rep for the Hollywood star did not immediately return a request for comment.
