Alec Baldwin still has a hard time living down the infamous 2007 voicemail he left for daughter Ireland, in which he called her a “rude, thoughtless little pig.”
Baldwin recalled the incident in his memoir, “Nevertheless,” writing that it left a “permanent break” in their relationship.
“It’s thrown in your face every day,” Baldwin, 59, told George Stephanopoulos in a “Good Morning America” interview airing Monday. “There are people who admonish me or attack me and use that as a constant spearhead to do that.”
He added, “It’s a scab that never heals cause it’s being picked at all the time by other people. My daughter, that’s hurt her in a permanent way.”
Still, Alec and Ireland have mostly reconciled. In 2012, she told Page Six, “The only problem with that voicemail was that people made it out to be a way bigger deal than it was. He’s said stuff like that before just because he’s frustrated. For me it was like, ‘OK, whatever.’ I called him back I was like, ‘Sorry, Dad, I didn’t have my phone.’ That was it.”
They’ve also at least been able to poke fun at the incident: In 2015, she posted a photo with Alec on Instagram reading a book called “If I Were a Pig,” writing, “If I were a pig … I would be rude and thoughtless, of course!”
