Magic Johnson is reflecting on his son EJ Johnson coming out.
“I think it’s all about you not trying to decide what your daughter or son should be or what you want them to become,” the NBA icon told Ellen DeGeneres in an interview that aired Wednesday. “It’s all about loving them no matter who they are [and] what they decide to do.”
Magic’s 24-year-old son came out in 2013.
“I was so happy for him and happy for us as parents,” he said. “EJ is amazing.”
Eyes have been on EJ — whose full name is Earvin Johnson III — as he’s become a reality TV fixture on E!’s “Rich Kids of Beverly Hills” and his own New York spinoff, “EJNYC.”
EJ’s integration of women’s fashions into his everyday style has sparked the question of whether he plans to transition, but he said last year, “I don’t feel incomplete in that way. I don’t feel the need to do that.”
