RuPaul knew his show would be a major hit

RuPaul knew that his show RuPaul’s Drag Race’ would be a hit.

“I never thought that my show would fail. Drag has such a great message for the world we live in… It is more important today than ever because drag queens are the tellers of truth,” he told us at the Time 100 Most Influential People Gala Tuesday night held at Lincoln Center.

“We tell you your persona, your identity is just a facade. The real you is underneath there and that is what you need to discover and that is what drag is about. It is about telling people don’t take yourself to seriously and connect with the source.”

As for his dream guest judge. “Well I recently had Lady Gaga do the first episode, but I would love to have Judge Judy on the show. She would be fabulous because I live for her. She is so brilliant and the smartest lady in the room. The money is a great part of it too but she has worked for years in public service and that did not make her a lot of money but it was a windfall for her. She looks under the surface to find the truth.”

And when it comes to being an iconic leader for the LGBTQ community, “I never brought into the matrix when it came to the gay culture. I was just amazed how people were so closed down to love and people felt more comfortable in fair than they do in openness. More than ever before we need people that would curate for young people who are looking for a path. So I feel that our show has been a great tool for people to do that.”
