Shannen Doherty’s cancer is in remission

After two years of battling breast cancer, Shannen Doherty announced she is in remission.

“Today was and is a moment. What does remission mean? I heard that word and have no idea how to react. Good news? YES. Overwhelming. YES,” she shared in a touching Instagram posted Saturday.

Even though remission is a cause for celebration, Doherty, 45, is aware the next five years are crucial.

“Reoccurrences happen all the time. Many of you have shared that very story with me. So with a heart that is certainly lighter, I wait,” the self-proclaimed “cancer slayer” said.

In the immediate future, Doherty will move forward with reconstruction surgeries and decide if she’ll get on medication for the next five years. She claims those pills come “with its own set of problems and side effects.”

“I am blessed, I know that,” she added. “But for now… remissions. I’m going to just breathe.”

The actress’ news comes months after her final chemotherapy treatment.

Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2015 and has chronicled her journey to better health via social media.
