Sydney Leathers: I warned Weiner before ‘teen’ sext scandal exploded

Anthony Weiner’s former sexting partner Sydney Leathers wrote to him last July to warn him about the sex scandal that would eventually engulf him, his wife, Huma Abedin, and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

Leathers, whose relationship with Weiner derailed his mayoral campaign, told Weiner that she had been contacted by a 15-year-old girl who claimed she had exchanged inappropriate text messages with the former congressman.

Leathers told The Post on Thursday that she contacted Weiner to tell him that he was in trouble.

“There’s a 15-year-old girl . . . messaging me and she’s claiming you guys sext and skyped. And that you know how old she is,” Leathers wrote last July.

“Frankly, I hope it isn’t true. But she showed me a screenshot that looks legit to me. How have you not learned your lesson? This is another level of f- -ked up.”

“If she is really someone you’ve been talking to, you better cut that off quickly,” she wrote.

Leathers also mentioned that the teen was considering going public with the information.

“She’s talking about potentially messing with Hillary’s campaign,” Leathers wrote. “I am kind of pissed to be put in this situation to be honest.”

The teen eventually sold her story to The Daily Mail, prompting a criminal inquiry that included Weiner handing his laptop to the FBI, which found e-mail from Abedin that caused the bureau to reopen its investigation into Clinton’s private server.

Leathers said that she urged the teen to alert police but that she refused. She said she then alerted child-protective services in the girl’s area but could not find help for her.

“It was a pretty awful situation to be placed in the middle of,” Leathers told The Post. “I felt a lot of pressure to help this kid I don’t even know. I didn’t know what to do other than to contact [child-protective services], and when that failed, I felt pretty helpless.”
