Dennis Quaid will play President George W. Bush in the upcoming FX drama “Katrina: American Crime Story.”
The second installment of Ryan Murphy’s new anthology series will focus on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Bush was president during the disaster and was widely criticized for the government’s response. He was previously portrayed by Josh Brolin in the Oliver Stone film “W.” Quaid joins previously announced cast members Annette Bening, Matthew Broderick and Sarah Paulson.
Quaid is a well-known star of both film and television. He has appeared in movies such as “The Day After Tomorrow,” “The Alamo,” and “Frequency.” He also previously played President Bill Clinton in the TV movie “The Special Relationship” and the fictional President Stanton in “American Dreamz.” He has also starred in the television series “Vegas,” “The Art of More” and “Fortitude.” He is repped by WME and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush & Kaller.
The first installment of “American Crime Story,” which covered the O.J. Simpson trial, won nine Emmys and two Golden Globes. It was also named an AFI television program of the year. Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson serve as executive producers, with Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions producing.
Murphy is already working on Season 3 of the series, which will focus on the murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace. Ricky Martin was recently cast on the new season as Versace’s partner Antonio D’Amico, along with Édgar Rarmirez as Versace, Penélope Cruz as his sister Donatella and Darren Criss as serial killer Andrew Cunanan.
