Hedge fund billionaire Steve Cohen is backing former NYPD officer and private detective Bo Dietl for mayor.
The Point72 Asset Management founder is hosting a “private fundraiser” at his Manhattan penthouse (the one he has been unsuccessfully trying to sell for years) on Tuesday, and tickets cost $4,950 each.
Dietl wrote on an e-mail invite to supporters, “Our campaign could really use your help. We are up against a corrupt mayor and we want to clean up New York City.”
Cohen, worth $13 billion, isn’t known for backing political winners: In 2015, he donated $2 million to a super PAC supporting the presidential candidacy of Chris Christie.
