Minnie Driver chooses charity over boozy bash

Philanthropy, not booze, was on the menu this week for Minnie Driver, as pointed out by the creator of her ABC series “Speechless.”

While accepting an award at the Cerebral Palsy Foundation’s Design for Disability Gala, Scott Silveri gave props to Driver by noting that she, “could easily be out and getting drunk at an upfront party. Instead [she] choose to do the right thing and attend a noteworthy cause,” as a spy recounted to Page Six.

Silveri emphasized that his show — in which Driver plays the mother of a son with cerebral palsy (Micah Fowler) — is dedicated to real families in similar situations.

Fowler, Derek Lam and DJ Kitty Cash were also in the crowd, while 18 models with cerebral palsy took part in a fashion show in clothes designed by local fashion students.
