Why Carol Burnett doesn’t give advice

Many actresses have followed in the footsteps of Carol Burnett, but she didn’t give them any pointers.

“I don’t give advice because they’re doing what they’re supposed to be doing and every person does it a different way,” Burnett, 84, told Page Six at Wednesday’s Paley Center Honors event celebrating women in television.

“I did it my way, Amy [Poehler’s] doing it hers and so forth, so leave them alone,” the iconic actress said of her co-star in her upcoming return to TV.  Burnett was also overheard singing the praises of other ladies of “Saturday Night Live,” including Tina Fey, Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph.

The Emmy Award-winning star, who was honored with a special tribute at the event at Cipriani Wall Street, acknowledged that even though opportunities for women on television are “so much better than when I started,” she isn’t completely satisfied.

“I’ll really be happy when there are as many women in power positions as there are men,” she told us.

Wrapping up the night with a speech introduced by a fangirling Tracee Ellis Ross, Burnett told stories of her mentor, Lucille Ball, and bid farewell to the audience the best way she knows how.

“Let me just say, I am so glad we had this time together,” she said, referencing the final song in every episode of “The Carol Burnett Show.”
