Maria Menounos: I’m ‘recovering well’ after brain tumor diagnosis

Maria Menounos reassured concerned fans that she is on the road to recovery, hours after revealing that she had a benign brain tumor removed and is leaving her post at E! News.

“I want you all to know that I’m ok! Seriously I’m recovering well and should be as good as new very very soon!” she captioned a picture with her mom, who is battling stage 4 brain cancer. “Luckily I don’t need any further treatments but I can’t say the same about my mom. So please keep her in your prayers.”

After experiencing symptoms such as slurred speech and headaches earlier this year, Menounos decided to see a doctor. An MRI discovered a meningioma brain tumor the size of a golf ball pushing on Menounos’ facial nerves. She scheduled surgery on her 39th birthday, June 8, with her mother’s doctor.

“He said, ‘I’m 98 percent sure it’s benign but we won’t know until we get in there,’” Menounos told People magazine.

On the heels of sharing her news, Menounos stepped down from E! and its nightly show to focus on her own health as well as her mother’s.

After a six-day stay in the hospital, Menounos is recovering at home with fiancé Keven Undergaro by her side.
