Aaron Carter claimed his “celebrity was targeted” by aggressive Georgia lawmen when they arrested him over the weekend for alleged DUI.
However, arresting Habersham County Sheriff’s deputies said they had no idea who Carter was until well after Saturday’s arrest.
In statement on his Twitter feed on Sunday night, the former teen heartthrob said he headed for a gig in Kansas City on Saturday when he pulled over to get his tires fixed at an AutoZone store in Cornelia, Georgia.
“After being in the store and requesting help to get his alignment fixed, he was arrested by several police officers with aggression,” according to Carter’s tweet.
“He feels his ‘celebrity’ was targeted and an attorney will be retained in this matter.”
Carter, 29, was arrested for driving under the influence of marijuana, officials said.
While not directly challenging the charges, Carter mentioned in that same statement that he’s licensed to have medical pot.
“Aaron holds a medical license for medical marijuana for his long standing anxiety,” according to his tweet.
The deputies who busted Carter claim they had no idea he was the “Aaron’s Party” signer, according to Habersham County Sheriff’s Capt. Floyd Canup.
“Deputies didn’t know his name, didn’t know he was a celebrity” until well after the fact, Canup told The Post on Monday.
All responding deputies knew was that they were answering 911 calls about a white male motorist who was driving erratically, swerving across lanes before pulling into the AutoZone, officials said.
Carter also accused deputies of denying him his right to speak to a lawyer. Canup said Carter was allowed to make a phone call as soon as he was booked into jail.
