Jessica Chastain slams CBS for no-female leads in fall lineup

Jessica Chastain isn’t pleased with CBS.

Upon hearing news that CBS executives didn’t select any new shows with female leads for its fall lineup, Chastain took to Twitter to air her grievances.

“I’ll just @netflix and chill. Or some @HBO greatness. Or anything by #RyanMurphy,” Chastain tweeted Wednesday. “There’s so many incredible options that don’t include @CBS.”

The twice Oscar-nominated actress, 40, also gave credit to the cast of “Queen Sugar” in a follow-up tweet.

“Also my Juilliard girls @dawnlyen @rutinaofficial @QueenSugarOWN,” she wrote Thursday, adding several heart emojis to her message.

During CBS’ Television Critics Association’s presentation Tuesday, CBS addressed the lack of diversity within its casting department.

“They’ve been together for a long time,” senior executive vice president of programming Thom Sherman said of CBS’ team. “We are cognizant of the issue, we hear you and we will be looking to expand the casting department.”

Chastain also spoke out about women’s portrayal in film at the Cannes Film Festival.

“I really took away from this experience is how the world views women from the female characters that I saw represented,” Chastain, a Cannes Film Festival jury member, shared at the closing press conference. “It was quite disturbing to me, to be honest — there are some exceptions.”

Although this year’s batch of films left Chastain feeling uninspired, she ended on a hopeful note about the future.

“I do hope that when we include more female storytellers we will have a more of the women that I recognize in my day-to-day life. Ones that are proactive, have their own agencies, don’t just react to the men around them, they have their own point of view,” she added.
