Yara Shahidi feels support for her ‘Black-ish’ spinoff

Taraji P. Henson hosted the taping of “Black Girls Rock!” at NJPAC in Newark, NJ, on Saturday, where “Black-ish” star Yara Shahidi was honored with the Young Gifted and Black award.

“What I . . . appreciate is that people support me, but at the same time they support my character, Zoey, as well,” she told Page Six. “I don’t have to be somebody else for the support and the love.”

Regarding her new ABC spinoff, “Grown-ish.” “I am . . . inspired by Lisa Bonet [from ‘A Different World’] now that my character is going off to college.”

“The Quad” star Anika Noni Rose told us, “Everybody [has had] moments where they felt like they didn’t rock . . . what makes it clear that you do rock is getting up another day and getting to [a good] place.”

The show will air Aug. 22 at 8 p.m. on BET.
