Bill Murray cried watching ‘Groundhog Day’ musical

Add this to the reasons we love Bill Murray.

The actor, who starred in the 1993 comedy “Groundhog Day,” got emotional Tuesday night while seeing the Broadway musical based off the movie.

According to New York Times reporter Sopan Deb, “By the end of the performance, Mr. Murray was visibly sobbing,” and, “he waited a minute to compose himself before joining the rest of the audience to cheer the cast.”

After the show, Murray went backstage to congratulate the cast. He told conductor David Holcenberg that the show “killed” him and one of the actors that the musical was “really beautiful.”

Andy Karl plays Phil Connors, Murray’s role in the movie, and Barrett Doss plays Rita, Andie MacDowell’s film role.

Addressing the cast, Murry, 66, said (per The Times), “As actors, I can’t respect enough how disciplined you are and how serving you are of the process. There’s nothing worse than seeing someone that’s out for themselves. And you are all in it for each other.”
