Arman’s granddaughter says Keith Haring drawings are her ‘birthright’

Madison Arman is trying to get her Keith Haring artworks back

The granddaughter of French-American artist Arman is raising money to sue for two Keith Haring drawings she claims are her “birthright.”

Madison Arman, 29, is the daughter of Arman’s son Yves Arman — who was a New York art dealer and a friend of Haring — and Debra Arman.

“These art works were made [for] me as a baby from Keith Haring between 1987 [and] 1989,” Madison, who lives in Japan, states on YouCaring.com, a crowd-funding site where she is trying to raise $5,700 for legal fees.

Madison said she was contacted in June by Imaginart Gallery in Barcelona, Spain, “wanting me to give a personal account on these works of art.” She claims she was “shocked” to discover that the works of art had been sold.

Madison’s parents had moved to Monte Carlo in 1987 so that their daughter would be born as a citizen of Monaco.

Yves died in a car crash two years later on his way to an art fair in Spain, where he planned to meet with his friend from New York, Haring. And then Haring himself died in early 1990.

Madison had raised just $200 as of Wednesday from 10 donors but said her lawyer “is going to work on getting these two works of art, which are my birthright.”
