Madonna on adopting more kids: ‘Never say never’

Madonna has two biological children and four adopted children from Malawi in Africa, but the “Material Girl” isn’t ruling out growing her family.

“I never say never about anything, but I have my hands full, mostly with my oldest children right now,” Madonna, 59, told People.

Earlier this year, she welcomed twins Estere and Stella, now 5, after initially meeting them two-and-a-half years ago.

When asked what drew her to her adopted children (Estere, Stella, David and Mercy James, both 11), Madonna said, “It’s inexplicable. It’s like saying, ‘Why do you fall in love with the people you fall in love with?’ You look into the eyes of somebody, you feel their soul, you feel touched by them – that’s it.”

While David and Mercy James were excited for their new twin sisters, Lourdes and Rocco had a different reaction.

“There might have been [a feeling of] ‘Oh, we have to share you with more people’ — not jealousy, but adjustment,” she said. “Eventually everyone was supportive. Lola said, ‘Mom, if that’s what you want and it’s going to make you happy, let’s go.’”

Madonna, who recently announced she’s moving to Portugal where son David will enroll in a soccer academy, claims her older kids need more help than her younger ones. Lourdes, 20, is in her senior year of college and son Rocco, 17, resides in London with his father, Guy Ritchie.

“I had this funny notion that when your children get older, they learn to take care of themselves and it gets easier,” she said. “But actually the older they get, the more challenging it gets – because now they’re becoming adults, they really need guidance.”

Despite her children growing older, Madonna says she still finds it difficult to co-parent.

“I’m in charge! I’m the boss!” she said of her philosophy. “Lola has a different father than Rocco, and I have four adopted kids, so there’s a lot of outside influences. I’m trying to impart the same wisdom and love to everyone. I’m bad cop. I’m the one what says no … I accept that role. I’m not the popular parent.”
