‘Kingsman’ New York premiere canceled to support Harvey telethon

Fox said Wednesday that it has canceled the New York premiere of “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” which was set for the same night as the hurricane relief telethon. The studio said it will donate the money budgeted for its “Kingsman” soiree to “Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief.”

“Given the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey and the important fundraising efforts happening on September 12, we have canceled that evening’s planned New York film premiere event for ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle,’” a Fox spokeperson said. “To that end, Twentieth Century Fox Film will be donating the money budgeted for the premiere to several of the non-profit groups associated with the telethon.”

Other events and screenings planned for the action sequel starring Taron Egerton and Colin Firth, including its London premiere on Sept. 18, will go on as scheduled.

The hour-long telethon will feature appearances by Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, Beyoncé, Jamie Foxx, Julia Roberts, Barbra Streisand, Reese Witherspoon and other stars as it raises money for victims of the awful flooding in Texas and Louisiana. Organizers said this morning that they are expanding the relief effort to include those who might be affected by Hurricane Irma, which is looming off the Atlantic Coast.
