Grand Ole Opry to host celebration of Troy Gentry’s life

The Grand Ole Opry is hosting a memorial for Troy Gentry this week after the country singer tragically died in a helicopter crash in New Jersey on Friday.

The celebration will take place on Thursday, September 14, at 11 a.m CT and is open to the public, the singer’s team announced in a press release on Monday.

Gentry and his Montgomery Gentry bandmate Eddie Montgomery became members of the Grand Ole Opry in 2009.

The musician’s family is expected to have a private gathering after the public service in Nashville. Gentry, who was 50 years old, leaves behind his wife of almost 20 years, Angie, and their two daughters Kaylee and Taylor.

His family asked that instead of sending flowers, donations be made to the T.J. Martell Foundation, an organization that Gentry regularly contributed to, or the American Red Cross for hurricane relief.

Gentry died in a helicopter crash in New Jersey on Friday while he was on his way to a venue for a Friday night performance. The helicopter’s pilot, James Evan Robinson, also died.
