Jill Soloway on the worst thing Trump’s done

Donald Trump has ruffled a lot of feathers in his short time as commander-in-chief, but according to “Transparent” creator Jill Soloway, the worst thing he’s done is encourage intolerance.

“We’re all affected as artists now that we live in a world where we can’t take for granted the idea that modernity and tolerance are the same thing,” Soloway told Page Six recently at a Paley Center for Media “Transparent” Season 4 screening. “That’s the worst thing that Trump has done. We’re moving forward in time, and backward in tolerance and that’s a really upsetting feeling for our equilibrium as people.”

Soloway’s goal is to make the world safer for trans people to come out, telling us, “People who don’t have any familiarity with trans people may be afraid and maybe things are happening too quickly for them and that’s where some of this retrograde is coming from.”

As for the upcoming season of “Transparent,” Soloway says Trump’s not mentioned much, but the effects of the election are seen in the show through a Pfefferman family trip to Israel.

Soloway told us, “I think in Trump’s America we’re all feeling, as creators, more inspired to ask the big questions about the whole planet and go all the way back in time and think about things beyond the borders of the country and more about the borders of possibility on the whole planet.”

One thing the show definitely won’t talk about is the transgender military ban Trump imposed.

“The trans ban happened after we finished filming,” Soloway says.

Hey, there’s always Season 5.
